Latest Updates - October 2023 The team working on the refresh have been busy over the past month, with the expected date for completion now expected to be early December . Whilst this is a few weeks longer than originally anticipated due to some delays on building materials, The Mall remains open for trade, and we continue to encourage our community to support local traders. Other updates: The toilet refresh is now complete and is looking fresh and clean. Full access has been restored, so you’re able to access the bathrooms again. We’ve listened to our community and have found a solution to keeping and repairing the existing character tiles on The Mall floor. We’re pleased to be able to keep some of the original character of the building. The ceiling removal has exposed a large void which we’re opening up to create a much greater sense of space and a lighter, brighter shopping village for all to enjoy. What’s next? Over the coming weeks, the team will be sectioning off areas of The Mall to complete works, so we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. The Mall will remain open throughout the rest of the refresh so pop down and say hi to our traders. Latest Updates - July 2023 What is happening in Manly Harbour Village? Manly Harbour Village Shopping Centre is undergoing a refresh in the coming months and will be re-branded to be known as The Mall. This is phase one and has been designed as a refresh. This refresh of the current centre, will bring more light & space, improve accessibility and offer better signage for our traders. There are a number of planned works designed to accommodate future expansion and development of the centre, whilst still retaining the local village feel we know and love. Which stores will be impacted? The Mall will remain open throughout the refresh, ensuring minimal downtime for each of our stores. IGA will remain open throughout the works, but some short term closures of other stores will be required. Exact timings will be communicated closer to the time of any impacts. Will there be any access changes? Any access changes will be communicated in advance, as exact timings become apparent. How long will the update take? The refurbishment project plan is scheduled to begin in mid August and is expected to take a few months. Please note Jones & Co IGA will remain open throughout the change so you will still be able to access all of your everyday essentials. What changes are being made to the shopping centre? This refurbishment is a blend of necessary building changes and cosmetic improvements to freshen up the shopping village. Whilst it’s not a complete renovation, you will notice changes to the exterior of the building, the space and light inside the building, improved amenities and access as well as better signage and navigation. Will the carpark be impacted? Access to the car park may be impacted at times and will be minimised as much as possible. Will the bathrooms be impacted? If so, how? - History: Manly Harbour Village Shopping Centre
Manly Harbour Village Shopping Centre has a rich history and has long been the central hub of the Manly Harbour Village shopping community. Constructed in the 1960’s by Stan Davis, the original Mall had a butcher, green-grocer, newsagent, general store and a barber, before being home to one of Brisbane’s Cash and Carry Stores. All very similar to the shops and services that can be found in the shopping centre today. Interestingly, The Mall was actually the original name of the Village Shopping Centre built on the corner of Cambridge Pde and Stratton Tce. Many locals have shared their stories of their time spent working and shopping in the building and the local village stores. While there have been lots of changes over the past 60 years, Manly Harbour Village still retains its village feel even as it transitions to a more vibrant and progressive shopping, dining and leisure precinct. . Let's face it (well, we could be biased) - there's no better place to enjoy getting out and active than Manly , and there's more options to get in shape (or stay in shape) than you might think. A return walk along the Esplanade from the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron passed the beautiful harbour to Darling Point gives you a 4km+ workout - a 1/2 hour well spent (or longer if you choose to stop for a chat and cheeky coffee at a local coffee shop ) . If you're a little more adventurous, why not hire a bike or kick bike and go a little further? ScooterBike Adventures has a great range that are so easy to enjoy. There's plenty to do off-shore too - why not get active in the harbour and beyond? 2530 Tours offers sunrise and sunset kayaking tours, or for those wanting more of a challenge Kyle will keep you out there for hours, exploring the nearby islands! Our local Medibank Park Run has to have one of the best views in the world for runners, and kicks off at 7am every Saturday from the wading pool. The 5km circuit leads runners down to Bayside Park and back. With its very convenient Esplanade location, 4Shore Fitness offers a great indoor alternative, particularly when the weather isn't perfect. New owners Ethan and Josie are keen fitness enthusiasts and lifelong members of the local community. Prior to their takeover of 4Shore, Josie and Ethan operated a health food and supplement store, but with their real passion for the gym and the great location, their new adventure was a no brainer. The 4Shore team will start classes in November - sign up to their newsletter for updates. If swimming is more your style, the Manly Pool is open seven days a week, and during Summer opens at 5.30am Monday to Friday (later on weekends). With its own poolside cafe, and slides for the kids, there's something for everyone. Great central location at Little Bayside Park, close to local shopping on Cambridge Parade. - Manly - a top Qld foodie destination?
Brayden Heslehurst recently penned an article for the Courier Mail , highlighting the recent movement to experience dining in Manly Harbour Village. There's nothing quite like enjoying great fish and chips by the water, but the local options these days have become far more sophisticated. As Brayden said, ' The bayside dining hub has gained a higher profile this year after two venues were named in The Courier-Mail ’s top 100 restaurants in Queensland , with The Arsonist at No. 34 and The Manly Boathouse at No. 96.' Outside of the Brisbane CBD and surrounding areas, such as Teneriffe and Woolloongabba, Manly was the only place in the city’s outer suburbs to have more than one entry in the list. Whether it's a legacy of Covid lockdowns, in that locals prefer to stay closer to home, or it's driven by the desire to support local, there seems to be a shift in the belief that the CBD is the only place to go for special dining occasions. Share-style menus are also in fashion, with both Top 100 Manly venues offering feasting and group-style dishes. Breakfast and lunch experiences are no longer standard bacon-and-egg fare either, with Manly Kitchen serving up Brioche French Toast with sour cherries, chocolate soil and kuromitsu, and Cambridge Lane Espresso offering Spanish Chorizo hash cakes with char-grilled asparagus. Manly's dining options throughout the harbour's sailing and yacht clubs, shopping precinct and along Esplanade are many and varied, and definitely worth a visit. - Taste of Manly + Brisbane Festival Wrap-up
For the second year running, Brisbane Festival hit the suburbs in September with its Street Serenade performances; a mini concert featuring Brisbane and Australian artists. The Manly Harbour Village Chamber of Commerce was excited to be involved to provide a free event to Manly residents and visitors that would offer more than just the concert. Thus, a Taste of Manly was born. Bayside Park came alive with face painting, giant games, and local performances by Momentum Choir , Wynnum State High School and Cody Miller. Moreton Bay Boys' College performed a surprising and fantastic rock-out performance, with BAY FM 's outdoor studio pumping out some great tunes between sets. Some lucky attendees saw much more than most, with Brisbane Bespoke Charters offering half hour mini Harbour tours throughout the day which sold out quickly. 2530 Adventures also provided free kayaking paddles for the kids - thanks for getting so muddy, Kyle! Local restaurants The Arsonist and Tide on the Jetty 'popped up' with some yummy bites alongside a range of food trucks , while many enjoyed quenching their thirst with Diablo Ginger Beer . Visitors learned about the great work volunteers are doing at the Moreton Bay Discovery Centre and even donated to the cause which was terrific to see. The weather was fantastic and Manly really shone, as did the performers and all involved. The Manly Harbour Village Chamber of Commerce thanks the Brisbane City Council for their sponsorship of this event.
